#95 Onix: The Rock Snake Pokemon
As it grows, the stone portions of its body harden to become similar to a diamond, but colored black. It rapidly bores through the ground at 50 mph by squirming and twisting its massive, rugged body. The tunnels it leaves are used as homes by Diglett. Onix has a magnet in its brain. It acts as a compass so that this Pokémon does not lose direction while it is tunneling. |
I discovered my love for Onix fairly recently. I thought to myself he's kinda cute because of two things: a picture book with illustrations by Keiko Fukuyama with Onix taking the other Pokemon for a ride (see picture on the left) and because of watching an anime episode with Brock recalling how he got Onix from his father as a child. Onix - he is fearsome and yet, as I already said, kinda cute, isn't he? (You WILL realize that by taking a look at the Southern Island TCG artwork above, mind you.) I like to imagine him as a big friendly monster that always protects his friends OR as a caterpillar-like tiny snake no bigger than the palm of one's hands made of pebbles (How cute is THIS please??) . With Onix merch being scarce, I hope to collect pretty much all the official figures/charms etc. there are and sprinkle my collection with a few customs here and there.

Onix Metal Swing Keychain
Release: Japan, ?
Found: pkmncollectors, 2015 Okay, the photo of this is pretty shitty lol. It's actually not that gold-colored. You can tell that this keychain is really old and it seems kind of faded out a bit. I don't know much about metal swing keychains, but it seems that they are all pretty old and feature gen1 and gen2 Pokemon. |
