#005 Charmander: The Lizard Pokemon
The flame at the tip of its tail makes a sound as it burns. You can only hear it in quiet places. If it's healthy, the flame on the tip of its tail will burn vigorously, even if it gets a bit wet. The flame that burns at the tip of its tail is an indication of its emotions. The flame wavers when Charmander is enjoying itself. If the Pokémon becomes enraged, the flame burns fiercely. |
#006 Charizard: The Flame Pokemon
Spits fire that is hot enough to melt boulders. Known to cause forest fires unintentionally. Charizard flies around the sky in search of powerful opponents. It breathes fire of such great heat that it melts anything. However, it never turns its fiery breath on any opponent weaker than itself. |
Charmander and Charizard both share the spot of my favorite Pokemon ever. Nostalgia certainly plays a role in why l like them so much. I've loved them since my childhood. Yellow was my first game, and I remember I was always especially happy and proud about receiving Charmander out of the three starters one was able to get in this game.
Charmander and Charizard have stuck with me over the years, and even now that I know many more Pokemon than back then, they are still my favorites of all. Charmander is just so heartwarmingly cute while Charizard has always been one of the coolest looking and most well designed Pokemon to me. The personality of Ash's Charizard in the anime definitely contributed to that as well. When I started Pokemon collecting, I decided relatively quickly that these Pokemon would be my main collection. Nevertheless, I don't like a majority of Charmander plush as to their designs, and so I tend to just collect the items I really like for both Charmander and Charizard. |
Charmander Kuttari Plush
Release: Japan, Pokemon Center, 2015
Material: Minky Found: pkmncollectors, 2015 Look at these cuties! <33 They are now my favorite Charmander plush! They are just so floppy and super adorable. I love their bellies and cute little smiles and paw pads. I got two of the sleeping ones and decided to cuddle with both of them and take off their tags. One of them has a cute little bell ribbon. They are really hard to stack on top of one another though since they like to fall over. |
Charmander Tomy Plush
Release: Japan, Takara Tomy, 2013
Material: Velboa Found: Christmas gift (hobbylinkjapan), 2013 When I found out mid 2013 that this plush would come out later that year, it was as if a dream had come true for me. Ever since I was a child, I've always imagined at how awesome it would be to have a Charmander plush. When I was little, we didn't have Charmander plush in Germany except for the play by play ones, which I didn't know about though. At the time I started getting back into Pokemon, I didn't know about the variety of different Charmander plush, and most of which I had seen were stylized or just not accurate, but I always wished for an accurate, proportionate Charmander. This plush is simply perfect when it comes to that and, in my opinion, one of the best Charmander plush out there. The only downside is its rather coarse velboa fabric. Other than that, it's adorable and as perfect and accurate as a Charmander could possibly turn out in plush form. I especially love his highly detailed embroidered eyes and fluffy tail flame. Love this Charmander forever, and since he was a Christmas gift, he's especially important to me. I will always remember the excitement before Christmas Eve and then the happiness when I took this Charmander out of the package. I felt as if I got a pet or something haha. One thing that is also special about this Charmander is that when my grandma, who is always with my parents and me on Christmas, saw it, she asked if it was a talisman. I have no clue why she thought that, but you know how little grannies can be sometimes. It was so cute, and ever sice then, I like to remember that moment and think of my Charmander as a "talisman". |
Charmander Hasbro Plush
Release: USA, Hasbro, 2005
Material: Minky Found: ebay, 2015 I have wanted this plush for ages, but somehow never got around to actually getting it until one of my friends from the pkmncollectors community found and bought it for me as a part of a trade. I don't know why I waited so long to get this plush, and how happy I am I finally did! When I first saw this plush in 2013, I was amazed and immediately fell in love. I didn't even know there was a Hasbro Charmander plush and from then on I knew I wanted it. As I wrote before, my dream as a child was to have an accurate Charmander plush and this is just one of it. I can't believe how utterly cute this plush is, just look at that adorable face! And it's so tiny, no bigger than the other small Hasbro beanies. It actually has minky fabric instead of the older fabric used on the late 90s/early 2000s Hasbro plush, and it's super soft and fun to pet and squish. Even though it's a relatively low quality Hasbro plush, to me it is perfect all around, and easily ranks among my top 3 favorite Charmander plush (the other two being the Tomy plush and the kuttaris). I'd love to get another one (or a few other ones!) eventually to build a little Charmander Hasbro army. |
Charmander Banpresto Terrycloth Plush
Release: Japan, Banpresto, 2004
Material: Cloth Found: pkmncollectors, 2013 This was my very first Charmnder plush! I got it shortly after I joined pkmncollectors. Therefore, this plush means a lot to me. He is pretty loved. His material is some kind of rough cloth. It catches dirt and dust easily. But I don't care because this Charmnander is one of the cutest and definitely one of my favorite Chars in my collection! What I like about this plush is that unlike many other Banpresto Charmander plush, it doesn't suffer from the too big of a forhead syndrome and his big head actually is balanced by the eyes and the big mouth. I love the big mouth because it makes him look like a baby dragon that likes to munch whatever it finds which is super cute. <3 Also his cute little paws are perfect. One thing I like about Charmander are his paws with the claws (for some reason, I find them cute - yes, don't ask me why I find claws cute lol, but I much prefer them for example over Squirtle's clawless feet haha), and they captured this so well on this plush. |
Charmander Pokemon Center Plush
Release: USA, Pokemon Center, 2014
Material: Minky Found: pkmncollectors, 2015 As far as I know, this was the first ever Charmander plush original to the Pokemon Center. I can't believe that in all these years, everyone who ever released Charmander plush were all the "secondary" companies like Banpresto or Hasbro. But the time has come, and it's a good time! They did so well on this plush, it's unbelievable how cute it is. Mine is an American release, but as far as i can tell, there are not many differences between the US and the Japnanese releases. Mine has the disadvantage of having a bit of a narrow head, but he's still super cute. This plush is super soft too, and I love that they kept his belly minky instead of using that rough felt-like fabric they often use on Charizards. The only strange things about this plush is that it's very long and that his legs are a bit off and not well-rounded like on the Tomy plush. I'd have to say I like the Tomy plush just a tad bit more, but not by far, and this is definitely one of the cutest Charmanders. But let's be honest, aren't they all cute? |
Charmander Banpresto Plush
Release: Japan, Banpresto, 2012
Material: Velboa Found: pkmncollectors, 2014 (Secret Spring Swap) This has to be one of the cutest Banpresto Charmanders and probably ties in with my big mouthed other Banpresto Charmander. This Charmander has a big forehead but still within the ranges of the normal lol. Just look at it from the side, how can you resist loving it? I love the cute little paws about this plush. |
Charmander Canvas Plush
Release: Japan, Pokemon Center, 2011
Material: Minky Found: pkmncollectors 2015 I got this Charmander together with a Treecko from a lovely member of pkmncollectors. They both have red bandanas and originally were meant to represent the person's Mystery Dungeon game. They are best friends and super cute. <3 The Charmander Canvas plush is one of the most accurate representations of Charmander and very popular, so I was happy to have gotten him for a pretty good price. |
Banpresto Ichiban Kuji Charmander Plush
Release: Japan, Banpresto, 2013
Material: Minky Found: Yahoo Japan, 2014 This little plush is super cute and was released together with the other Kanto starters, all of which came sitting in a little cardboard box. I also have the box, but I display the Charmander without it. The issue with this plush, just like with many Banpresto Charmanders, is its high forehead. I have to say, this plush is on the brink of having too big a forehead, but it's still okay. A very cute plush. |
Charmander Pokedoll
Release: Japan, 2014
Material: Minky Found: pkmncollectors, 2014 This is the newest re-release of the Charmander Pokedoll. To be honest, I am not a huge fan of this plush and rather got it just for the sake of representation in my collection since, you know, every collection needs a Pokedoll blabla. Maybe it's also just the realease which bugs me since I somehow have the feeling older releases look different. You can also find this plush in my Pokedoll section. |
Charizard 2013 Tomy Plush
Release: Japan, Takara Tomy, 2013
Material: Minky Found: pkmncollectors, 2014 This is hands down the best Charizard plush out there! I love this plush so much, it's actually one of my favorite plush of all time, if not the favorite. She's a girl and I named her Ruby. I regard her as the "mother" of my whole Charizard flock. :) This Charizard plush has become rare and crazy expensive by now and I am beyond happy about having had the chance of getting her for a good price at the beginning of 2014. This plush is just perfectly crafted and very high quality, and extremely soft and squishy too. The wings are secured by some sturdy plastic material inside. The belly is made of some rougher felt-like material. |
Charizard Pokemon Center Plush
Relea: Japan, Pokemon Center, 2013
Material: Minky Found: ebay, 2013 This fellow was my very first Charizard plush and my second Pokemon plush after I got back into Pokemon again. I saw him on ebay and was totally hooked about the fact that there existed a realistic Charizard. All I knew at that time was the super derpy looking Hasbro Charizard. The disadvantage about this plush is that he is made of velboa. His face looks kind of funny from the side too. Overall, he is a great plush and definitely one of the best and most accurate out there. Apparently, he has become pretty rare, so I am super glad I could snatch him up when he was released! |
Charizard Tomy Paki Paki Plush
Release: Japan, Takara Tomy
Material: Velboa Found: Yahoo Japan, 2014 Paki Paki plush are poseable plush meaning they have joints inside them that enable one to move around various parts and thus adjust their poses. This Charizard is just to die for! ;w; When I saw him, I immediately had to get him. He is just one perfect example of how heartwarming and adorable derpy plush can be. Just the face, the way he looks up, open arms as if he wanted to hug you, make my heart melt in an instance! I like to call his teeth "flying teeth" because they're pointing to the sides :D |
Mega Charizard X Pokemon Center Plush
Release: Japan, Pokemon Center, 2014
Material: Minky Found: Yahoo Japan, 2014 This plush has to be one of my favorite Charizard plush. When I saw that they'd release his mega evolution in plush form, I was hyped and anxious at the same time, thinking that, since I buy my stuff preowned, he would skyrocket in price and I'd not be able to get him later. Luckily, I found him together with his Y brother on Yahoo Japan for a decent price at that time and was able to get them both. This plush is highly detailed and has a very cool pose. The blue parts are made of rougher felt-like material whereas the black parts are minky. This plush is also perfectly balanced and can easily stand on its own. It's just a must-have for every Charizard collector. |
Mega Charizard Y Pokemon Center Plush
Release: Japan, Pokemon Center 2014
Material: Minky Found: Yahoo Japan, 2014 I got this guy along with the X version on Noppin. I like Charizard X more than Y, but I warmed up to Y a lot more after having this plush. I just love this guy's dynamic pose and long tail. |
Charizard Pokemon Time Plush
Release: Japan, 2013
Material: Minky Found: sunyshore, 2013 This little guy is super cute. I love seeing cute Charizards. He has an unusually big chin for a Charizard which makes him even more special though. His arms have magnets inside so you can stick them together. I absolutely love the tag art! |
Charizard Pokedoll
Release: Japan, Pokemon Center, 2012 (rerelease)
Material: Minky Found: sunyshore, 2013 This is Charizard's 2012 rerelease. I've never really knowingly seen his original 2010 version being sold. I am super happy with the 2012 version though since as far as I know, there are little to no differences anyway. Charizard, together with Mewtwo, was my first Pokedoll ever and my second Charizard plush overall. I love how they transformed him into the Pokedoll style and how his feet and arms are super simplified. My favorite parts about this plush are his super cute little wings and the fact that his belly and flame are minky. He is just so cute and one of the most precious and cherished plush in my collection. |
Charmander Kid Figures
Releases: (from upper left to bottom right) Japan, Bandai, 1996, 2005, 2004, 1999
Found: pkmncollectors, 2013-2014 The first one is the old Kid from the 90s and the others are newer releases. The second one is THE CUTEST THING I'VE EVER SEEN. Just look. This is exactly how I always imagine Charmander to look like. I know it's a chibified version, but to me, this is the "real" Charmander. I also love the winking one with his open mouth - they're all just incredibly heartwarmingly cute and belong to my favorite figures of all time! |
Charmander Tomy Figure (old)
Release: Japan, Takara Tomy, probably 1998
Found: pkmncollectors, 2013 This figure looks hilarious. I am not even sure if it is a bootleg since I know there are definitely bootlegs of this figure. For some strange reason, Charmander's tone of red looks more like Charmeleon on this figure lol. It has huge feet too lmao. |
Charmander Tomy/Hasbro Talking Figure
Release: USA, Hasbro, 1998
Found: ebay, 2013 This is one of the most perfect Charmander figures out there. He needs a battery in his back so that he can talk, and his flame lights up too! This Charmander is definitely one of the happiest Charmanders I have seen :D Just look at the cute smiling mouth. The figure is very well made and is a bit more than twice the size of a normal Tomy figure. |
Charmander Footprint Figure
Release: Japan, ?
Found: pkmncollectors, 2014 This figure is super small, but very cute. It has the original Ken Sugimori Charmander pose. I love this pose on Charmander. This Charmander is pretty close to how I always imagine Charmander to look like. With cute head, small arms and chunky legs and feet. For such a small figure, they really did a great and detailed job. |
Charizard Normal and Attack Kid Figures
Releases: (from upper left to bottom right) Japan, Bandai, 1996, 2008, 2006, 2012, 2010
Found: pkmncollectors, 2013-2014 How I love collecting all the Kid figures! There are so many poses. The first one is the original Kid figure from the 90s which is very old and beat-up. The last two are attack versions. The first one of them with the sprad wings is my favorite of the attack ones, I like the whole pose and also how the arms and claws are positioned. The second one looks more like some kind of weird puke than fire xD Nevertheless, still a figure one's gotta have for one's collection! |
Charizard Poseable Tomy Figure
Release: Japan, Takara Tomy, 2013
Found: hobbylinkjapan, 2014 This figure is a Tomy figure, but it slightly bigger than a normal Tomy figure. He has poseable feet and wings, which are ball-jointed which makes them especially flexible which is really cool. I love the pose of this figure with the bent down head and open mouth. It's different from the usual Charizard pose looking up, but also unlike the newer version of the Tomy figure with Charizard's neck bent further down, which I like. Other than that, this figure is just another example of how high-quality Tomy figures really are. |
Charizard DX Tomy Figure
Release: Japan, Tomy
Found: pkmncollectors, 2013 This figure was one of my first Charizard figures I got when I started collecting him. It is about three times as big as a Kid figure (see size comparison pic below) and has poseable arms, legs, tail and neck. It reminds me of one of the dinosaurs plastic dinosaur action figures my male friends and I used to play with as children, so I get a very nostalgic feeling when I have that figure in my hand. He is not in the best condition anymore and has a few spots of missing paint and spots, but he's still awesome! |
Mega Charizard X and Y Straps
Release: Japan, Takara Tomy, 2014
Found: pkmncollectors, 2014 I have no idea what company these straps were made by actually. They are pretty tiny and bendable and have pretty generic poses. They make a nice decoration for my Charizard collection hanging from above the collection shelf. |
